What does it take to pull a sled across Alaska for 1,000 miles on foot in winter? After running 600 miles to Ruby, Alaska in 2017, Jorge took some lessons home, and then completed the 1,000 mile trek from Anchorage to Nome earlier this year. In a world of “badassery,” “sufferfests,” and “pain caves,” Jorge realized that, for him, joy is the driver for success in life’s challenges. A healthy mental game enabled him to experience the magic of the Iditarod Trail, his fellow runners, running dogs, tiny hamlets and remote wilderness.

Driven by a passion for space, Jorge moved from his native Barcelona to NASA, to support Space Shuttle missions and lead artificial intelligence research. Baffled by organizational obstacles, he learned to address them at MIT and co-founded strategy innovation firm Strategos. His endurance journeys, including a self-flown and human-powered expedition north of the Arctic Circle, yield the mental game insights he shares.

About the Speaker:

Jorge Latre has competed in the Iditasport Impossible winter foot race in 2017 & 2018. The Iditasport Impossible is 1000 miles, on foot, on fat bike or on ski. The race is largely self-supported and relies mostly on self-rescue if things turn out ugly. In 2017 Jorge was the only racer to run 600 miles of the trail to Ruby, Alaska.
